Pavan Khoobchandani
Secretary, birdSEED National Board
As a born and (partially) bred Washingtonian, I am constantly aware of how lucky I am to call DC home. As a current resident of the beautiful and diverse neighborhood of Crestwood, I serve as the elected ANC commissioner, a role in which I am reminded every day of the power of neighbors to effect change and build community. At the start of my career, I represented tenants as a student attorney with DC Law Students in Court - a non-profit that provides free, high-quality representation to poor and indigent tenants in DC. After many years at big law firms and working for multinational companies, I am happy to be working for a small community oriented company that puts people and place over profit. It’s refreshing AND it’s novel. Not only is Flock committed to best-in-class service, but we are dedicated to serving the DC community and being good citizens as a company.
At Nest and at Roost, there is a universal culture of caring. Mediocrity and a lack of respect are not values we choose to live or work by. That values-based culture aligns perfectly with my experience working on inclusion and diversity efforts as well a variety of compliance capacities. When I'm not with my Flock colleagues, or running my own small boutique firm, you might find me at the Sheridan School, where I serve on the Board of Trustees and see these same values fiercely exhibited for my son and daughter every day. If there is a theme to my background I hope it would be something close to the mantra my wife says to our kids: It's nice to be nice. Really, I'd just like to continue making nice happen.
